DocsWeb is the software for web
submission or print orders from remote
clients (on the internet or intranet) to
a centralized print
room.
Clients can submit print orders
to their preferred CRD (either in-house
or external commercial printer), asking
via web any available options:
- printing mode (simplex, duplex,
booklet,...)
- finishing options (stapling, binding,...)
- delivery priority
- order price estimate/quotation
Once submitted, the order can be
traced via web and re-purposed any next
time without having to refill all the
required options.
Through this web2print
application, print rooms can offer to
their Customers (internal or external,
over the corporate intranet or via
internet) all the capabilities
needed to submit online their document
print requests, create their own
repository of documents ready for
printing, retrieve such documents,
automate all approving phases as well as
the quoting, billing and job tracking
functions.

web2print architecture of
DocsWeb (1 MB)
In the above picture, which summarizes the
DocsWeb architecture, your Print Room,
which has multiple print devices (digital
printers as well as offset), may receive print
orders from different customers.
If the Print Room is a corporate one (in-house
CRD in any markets: manufacturing, P.A.,
finance, education,...), orders will
likely arrive via intranet (or internet).
The "Customers" will be company employees
authorized to submit print requests.
If the Print Room is a
commercial one (professional digital printer or
graphic arts), orders will get via
internet, from existing customers as well
as from new ones.
"Customers" may either be companies or private
people (e.g. students).
What DocsWeb
does DocsWeb submits print jobs
from Client PCs to a Print Room via internet or
intranet.
What DocsWeb does
NOT do It does not submit
print jobs from Client’ PCs directly to print
devices.
It does not download print jobs to printers:
printing to a specific device, b/w or color, is
scope of a digital front-end (or print workflow
management software), such as Docs.
DocsWeb is a "print
e-procurement"
solution In
general, e-procurement solutions use
internet technology to streamline the
corporate purchasing function, and range
from basic catalog access tools to
systems that encompass the whole
requisition-to-quotation-to-delivery
process.
Establishing a print e-procurement solution
with DocsWeb means setting up a your virtual
electronic market customized for your company'
specific procedures and business rules.
Thanks to
DocsWeb, your Print Room
becomes accessible from the desktop of all
employees or external customers via a
standard web browser, enabling a self-service
purchasing environment that allows clients to
select print products and initiate their
orders.

For the Print Rooms, the benefits of
implementing a print service with DocsWeb
may be grouped into
three categories:
• Save
time: dramatically reduces the
request of information that you receive daily
about available papers, available finishing
options, custom quotations, etc.
All the process can now be automated via web,
thus reducing the need for your staff to stay
hours on the phone with clients, just to
provide always and always the same repetitive
information.
• Minimizing errors: the
submitted orders, being pre-approved
by the clients, can be printed without need for
double checks and further controls.
And as long as your set of print features
and descriptions are well documented and
self-explanatory (which the parametric approach
of DocsWeb allows you to do), the "user
experience" of your clients gets better and
betters helping them to fill-in and
submit congruent orders, error free.
• Boosting overall job turnaround
times: imagine how the order worflow
is now consistent thanks to DocsWeb: error free
orders, arriving to your web2print queue, that
you can manage at your convenience, without
phone interrupts for clarifications. Receive an
order, print, bill. Receive an order, print,
deliver, bill. All notifications to your
Customers can be automated: you define template
messages, and DocsWeb does the rest.

Frequently Asked
Question
Q: What
document formats can be submitted through
DocsWeb?
A: Any.
Q: Can I also send a
Word document? A: Yes. The Word
document – as well as any other documents in
native format – can be selected and
transmitted. Just be aware that some changes
could happen on the Printer’s PC. Be sure that
margins, page breaks, etc. are properly
applied.
Q: Is it possible to
convert a native document (e.g. Word) into PDF
before submitting? A: Yes. Use
Adobe Acrobat (or equivalent software) to
convert the native document to PDF. DocWeb also
includes a virtual PDF Printer, that Client can
download, install on PC, and use to create PDF
files.
Q: Are native document
converted “on fly” to PDF while submitting
through DocsWeb? A: No, so far
documents must be converted in advance, prior
to submission.
Q: May the
Clients have a quotation of their
print orders before submitting? A:
Yes.
Q: Does DocsWeb include
e-commerce? A: No.
Q: What about
security? A: DocsWeb relies on IIS
technology for managing the web access.
Document transfer is based upon HTTP.
Q: Is DocsWeb available
as a "product" or is it an ASP
solution?
A: It is a product. To be more precise, a
software product. We sell the software license
to put in place, configure, and run the online
print shop.
All the rest may be provided on demand by
your hardware or printer vendor, or by
ourselves: server(s), connectivity, web
hosting, etc.
Q: In what languages is
DocsWeb available? A: English,
Spanish, French, German, Italian.
Q: Does DocsWeb allow a
print job go directly from web to any of
my printers? A: Not at all. Print
orders are queued at the DocsWeb control panel.
A person at the Print Room must authorize the
forward to a print device.
Q: I am a Print Room
Manager. Must I have Docs to make document
ready and submit to printers? A:
No. Docsweb and Docs are independent. You can
adopt DocsWeb for web submission, and continue
using any other digital front-end to make
document ready and download jobs to
printers.
Q: Is DocsWeb JDF
compliant? A: DocsWeb does not use
JDF specifications to track orders. All print
settings are written into a standard XML file,
whose specs are open and made available in the
product setup.
When you install DocsWeb, you also get the
document specifying the XML syntax, which makes
any software intergration with your legacy
programs very simple (and very
likey easier than if you had to study and
implement JDF).
Q: I am interested in
purchasing the sources. May I look at the
code before buying? Of course.
